Stay of Ukrainian Citizens in Poland After 30 September 2025

The issue of the stay of Ukrainian citizens in Poland continues to raise many questions, especially in connection with the expiry of the current regulations on 30 September 2025.

The Office for Foreigners emphasizes that even if a new law is not adopted by that date, the stay of Ukrainian citizens will remain fully legal thanks to temporary protection granted under the decision of the Council of the European Union.

It is worth noting that Ukrainian citizens with UKR status may also apply for a temporary residence permit.
The basis for such an application may include:

  • employment,
  • running a business,
  • family reunification

These solutions allow for the regularization of stay in Poland also in the longer term.

New Act – What Will Change?
The Government and Senate have already adopted a new act, which is currently awaiting the signature of the President of Poland.
This legislation will regulate certain matters relevant to Ukrainian citizens, but it will also introduce broader changes affecting all foreigners residing in Poland. The amendments will cover, among others: verification of entitlement to social benefits, access to healthcare, and improved identification of foreigners.

Further details and updates on the legislative process can be found on official government websites.
